The project combines different approaches towards multilingual education: language awareness, language comparison, intercomprehension, immersion and translanguaging. This holistic approach towards multilingual education makes the project unique.
The holistic approach makes it possible to not only recognize and acknowledge different languages, but also to use them. Thus, students come into contact with languages that they don’t speak, and are able to use their full linguistic repertoire.
In order to support sustainability and ownership, the activities are developed in collaboration with the teachers of the different schools. Every school has its own questions regarding the use of multiple languages in the classroom. These individual questions require different approaches and activities.
The possibility to use different languages in the classroom is not only important for language education, but for all subjects. The activities are therefore not only developed in the context of foreign language learning, but they also concern content learning.
The activities are not focused on one modality, but they are developed for different modalities: reading, listening, writing and speaking.
